3D BENCHMARK VGA V1.0
-----------------------
A PUBLIC DOMAIN UTILITY BY NEW DIMENSION INTERNATIONAL LTD
----------------------------------------------------------
INTRODUCTION
------------
This software has been placed into the public domain to establish a
reference point for comparing the performance of PC compatible VGA
systems.
The 3D benchmark is arrived at by timing one cycle of a continuous
3-dimensional demonstration and then calculating the average number of
screen updates the computer system has achieved in one second (frames
per second - fps). The higher the benchmark, the greater the performance.
The benchmark is dependant on a number of factors. These include:
the processor type (eg 80286, 80386, 80486)
the speed of the processor
the use of cache memory
the internal architecture of the PC
the bus size of the VGA card (8 or 16 bit)
& the efficiency of the VGA card.
(The presence of a floating point co-processor will not affect the result)
Example results:
Viglen 386SX (16MHz), Paradise 1024 VGA - 4.9 fps
Viglen 386 (33MHz), VGA on Hercules Graphics Station card - 6.5 fps
HM Systems 486 (25MHz), VGA on motherboard - 10.9 fps
This software can be used to compare the performance of similar VGA
computer systems when making a buying decision. It can also be used by
hardware manufacturers to provide a continuous display during exhibitions
or for shop window displays. It may also be bundled with hardware
purchases (customised demonstrations and environments can be made to
order).

THE 3D SYSTEM
-------------
This benchmark disk has been created using the SUPERSCAPE Alternate
Realities System. Environments run in real time and display walk-
through 3D graphics, simulating the experience of actually being there.
This particular demonstration has not been made interactive, so that
the reference point used to create the benchmark is fixed.
